In time to celebrate Silversea Cruises’ 25th anniversary, the line’s new ship Silver Moon touched water in late summer of 2019 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy. For longtime fans and newcomers to the line, now is the time to book a suite on Silver Moon’s May 4 maiden voyage from Athens (Piraeus), a seven-day, round trip which makes calls at Mykonos, Kusadasi, Rhodes, Santorini and Nafplion.

The ninth ship in the Silversea fleet, the 40,700-ton Silver Moon is one of five luxury ships that the venerated cruise line will be bringing to the seas soon. After her inaugural season in the Mediterranean, the $350 million Silver Moon is scheduled to sail in fall to Dubai, then on to Mumbai and further to Southeast Asia and Hong Kong. By Spring, 2022, the ship will be in Northern Europe and the British Isles and by that fall a Transoceanic sailing takes it to the Caribbean and to twenty countries in the Americas.

The new Silver Moon will have a crew of 411 and a guest capacity of 596 which makes for a nifty crew-to-guest ratio of nearly 1:1.5. While undergoing certain redesigns, Silver Moon will largely echo the successful features of its sister, the flagship Silver Muse. In addition, the ship will host the cruise line’s new S.A.L.T culinary program (to be covered in an upcoming post).

As for Silver Muse dining tweaks to appear on the Silver Moon, the signature French restaurant La Dame will double in size and move from Deck 4 to Deck 8 to incorporate outdoor seating. Positioned at the entrances and along walls, custom handmade Lalique crystal panels are symmetrical works that reflect 1935 motifs from René Lalique himself: the nymph-like Masque de Femme and Coutard, a geometric pattern of water spray evoking ocean waves.

Also, the open-seating restaurant Atlantide will grow in size, while the popular Kaiseki Japanese restaurant will get a redesign.

With a recent expansion of its wine program, Silversea now has approximately 160 different wines and some 70 different labels in its selection, which means passengers can enjoy one of the broadest choices of complimentary wines aboard any cruise ship.

Public areas: As on the Silver Muse, the Arts Café will display an impressive and wide-ranging collection of contemporary Italian art (see Silver Muse art collection post) and promises to be a popular venue at all hours for indoor or outdoor relaxation over gourmet bistro items.

The mid-ship Dolce Vita bar divides its space into two sub-areas of an evening bar, with more formal setting, as well as a bar/café in which guests can relax during the daytime.

The Connoisseur’s Corner cigar bar will be repositioned to Deck 9, with a new Winter Garden area being added as well. The Pool Deck bar will increase in size, while the Zagara Beauty Spa and its health facilities will be expanded also.

Nearly all Silver Moon suites have private verandas and all feature ocean views. In addition, all guests enjoy butler service.

Among a broad selection of cabin choices, four Grand Suites of up to 1,970-square-feet in a two-bedroom configuration come with a 635-square-foot veranda. Two Royal Suites are nearly as large. A series of veranda suites from deluxe to superior and classic measure 387-square-feet and include a 64-square-foot veranda. Among six Vista Suites measuring from 333- to 646-square-feet, three of them are wheelchair accessible.

Silver Moon will incorporate the RINA marine service company’s Green Star 3 Design certification that is given to ships that adhere to certain proscribed methods of water treatment, exhaust systems and more environmental features that cruise passengers increasingly look for.
