Two Blue Devils in Top Ten at Sea Best Invitational - Duke University -

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Paced by top-10 finishes from senior Adrien Pendaries and freshman Ian Siebers, the No. 25 Duke men's golf team finished in a tie for second overall as the Sea Best Invitational that wrapped up Tuesday at TPC Sawgrass – Dye's Valley Course.

Pendaries, who finished third, signed for a one-over 71 on Tuesday for a 54-hole total of even-par 210 that was three back of the individual champion, Nicholas Gabrelcik from North Florida. UNF also claimed the team title at 21-over par for the tournament.

Duke and Liberty each finished 12 strokes back of the Osprey in a tie for second (+33), with Campbell (+42), NC State (+44), Charlotte (+45) and host Jacksonville (+45) rounding out the top half of the 12-team field.

Pendaries closed strong on Tuesday to pace his Blue Devils, stringing three birdies over the final seven holes which included four straight 3's over holes 12 through 16 to solidify his spot in third place.

"There were some improvements and things that we did well as a team, however, we made too many mistakes to really threaten the leaders this week," said Pendaries. "We needed to keep it simple in such tough conditions. Sometimes we try to hit the "perfect" shot in a situation that only requires a more simple shot selection to have a birdie look. For me, I'm happy with the progress since coming back to campus. I've improved on what was lacking since Camp Creek, but some of my bad tendencies flared up on some of the tougher shots I faced today, which cost me too many shots. So back to work this week to keep improving and I look forward to putting my game to the test again in a couple of weeks."

Siebers was also boosted by a strong back nine on Tuesday as he played the final eight holes in two-under par on his way to a one-under 69. The freshman from Bellevue, Wash., posted a 54-hole total of five-over 215 that was good for a tie for eighth. Siebers has finished in the top 10 in each of his first two collegiate tournaments.

Also for the Blue Devils, freshman Jimmy Zheng carded a 76 on Tuesday and finished the tournament tied for 26th at 13-over 223. Senior Evan Katz finished strong in the final round with a 73 and was tied for 46th, while graduate Steven DiLisio was 49th. Playing as an individual, junior Quinn Riley was tied for 58th.

The Blue Devils complete their three-tournament Florida swing to open the 2021 season Feb. 19-21 at the Seminole Intercollegiate at Golden Eagle CC in Tallahassee.
